Every once in a while you may hear someone talking about saw palmetto and prostate cancer prevention.
But, is there a link?
The answer is, maybe there is, maybe there isn't.
There is no hard connection between saw palmetto and prostate cancer prevention, any more than there is between prostate cancer and any other herb. This is why the labels on supplements and herbs always say it is not intended to cure or prevent or treat any specific disease along with the standard FDA disclaimer.
But, that does not mean there is no link for sure.
Anything that is good for your prostate is probably going to be good for protecting against prostate problems in general.
So, in addition to saw palmetto, someone might also load up on foods that contain lots of lycopene. Studies are constantly coming out about lycopene (an anti-oxidant) and its effect on tumors (especially in the prostate). You can get lycopene in tomatoes (amongst other foods). And, in fact, if you eat tomatoes with broccoli you get a kind of "double whammy" effect that could also protect against cancer in your prostate.
Same goes for food that lower inflammation in your body.
A lot of diseases are caused by inflammation.
And, today, most people are suffering from it whether you realize it or not.
Snuff out the inflammation, and you will likely go far towards preventing cancer in your prostate and elsewhere.
To sum up:
There is no hard link between saw palmetto and prostate cancer prevention, but that does not mean it can't help anyway to protect you from the disease (along with other foods, too).
